Book Review for

Jar City

by Arnaldur Indridason

The 1st Inspector Erlendur mystery.
A reclusive old man is found murdered in his apartment, his head
crushed by a glass ash tray. A note is found that says, "I am him," and
an old photo of a gravestone is found hidden in his desk. It shows the
name of a 4-year-old girl. When her body is exhumed, her brain is
missing. Thus begins a chain of clues that leads Inspector Erlendur
toward a 40-year-old unsolved crime, a rare genetic disease, and
secrets that could tear families apart. Erlendur must also deal with
a strong-willed daughter who is in trouble but is reluctant to
ask for his help. This is a great thriller from a great writer.
