Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed --
The Story of the Village of Le Chambon and How Goodness Happened There

by Phillip P. Hallie

The true story of a small Protestant village in southern France
(pop. 3,000) that saved the lives of 5,000 Jewish refugees,
most of them children, from the Nazis during WWII.

Because of their love for Jesus Christ and commitment
to non-violence, the Chambonnais hid the Jews so
"innocent blood will not be shed". They believed that
God would hold them accountable for doing nothing
 (Deuteronomy 19:7-10).

Thus, led by their pastor Andre Trocme and his tireless
wife, Magda, Le Chambon quietly became a "city of refuge"
and a remarkable testimony to the genuine love of Christ.
