Book Review for
Finding Nouf
by Zoe Farraris
A 16-year-old Saudi Arabian girl goes missing in the desert. Her wealthy
family hires Nayir ash-Sharqi, a desert guide, to find her. When her body
is found, the autopsy shows that it was not the blow to the head which
killed her. She drowned! When her family seems strangely uninterested in
finding out what happened, Nayir takes it upon himself to discover the truth.
Even though he is very traditional, he finds it necessary to team up with
Katya Hijazi, a lab worker at the coroner's office. This fine story is as much
about the uncomfortable and careful relationship between Nayir and Katya
as it is about what happened to Nouf. It is a pleasure to watch the chemistry
between Nayir and Katya progress from discomfort to admiration and respect,
and, perhaps more? A very good story.
