Book Review for
Rain Gods
by James Lee Burke
One of the best James Lee Burke novels ever written.
The characters are as rich and interesting as they can be.
Hackberry Holland is sheriff of a small Texas town. He and his deputy sheriff,
Pam Tibbs, are trying to solve the murders of 9 illegal aliens, machine-gunned
and buried behind a church. A young Iraq veteran, Pete Flores, and his
girlfriend,
Vikki Gaddis, are running for their lives from crime boss Hugo Castranos. A
small-time
gangster, Nick Dolan, is trying to protect his family from reprisals. And a
mysterious,
God-fearing, serial-killer-for-hire by the name of Preacher Jack Collins is
seemingly
invincible in his bloody quest to fulfill a twisted agenda. The FBI, Immigration
and
Customs Enforcement, and a host of hired killers only complicate matters for
Holland and Tibbs as they try to solve the murders and prevent more bloodshed.
A superb story to read.
